Holbein Irodori Antique Watercolor Set - Discontinued Colors Hand-Poured Magnetic Half Pans
✨ RARE & COLLECTIBLE: DISCONTINUED HOLBEIN IRODORI ANTIQUE WATERCOLOR ✨
Own a piece of watercolor history with this curated set of 9 rare colors from the original, now out-of-print Holbein Irodori Antique series. Unlike the modern Irodori Gouache sets available today, these original watercolors were specifically formulated to capture the soul of 15th-century Japanese art.
🏮 The "Antique" Difference: Then vs. Now
What makes these discontinued pans different from today's pigments?
Granulation & Texture: The original Antique line was designed to granulate heavily, mimicking the traditional mineral pigments (Iwa-enogu) used in ancient Japanese scrolls. Modern pigments are often ground finer for smoothness, losing that "living" texture found in this set.
Traditional Opacity: These colors feature a higher pigment load and natural Gum Arabic content. This gives them a unique semi-opaque finish that is "heavier" than transparent watercolors but more luminous than standard gouache.
Muted Seasonal Tones: Modern Irodori sets lean toward vibrant, seasonal pops. The Antique series focused on "aged" hues—colors that look as if they have been preserved for centuries, offering a sophistication that is hard to mix using modern, bright primaries.
💎 Why This Set is a Must-Have
Authenticity Guaranteed: Poured by hand at Likhang Bahaghari from original, well-preserved Holbein tubes.
Artist-Grade Quality: No cheap fillers or whitening agents. You get pure, lightfast pigments that won't turn muddy when layered.
The "Last Chance" Factor: Because these were reformulated or discontinued across different regions, they have become extremely difficult for artists to source. Once our stock is gone, these specific "Antique" pans will not return.
🎨 The Rare 9-Color "Antique" Palette:
This set includes the most sought-after, discontinued shades:
Antique Crimson – A deep, weathered red.
Antique Pink – A soft, dusty rose.
Antique Orange – An earthy, burnt ochre-style orange.
Antique Turquoise – A moody, vintage teal.
Antique Dark Green – A rich, forest-shadow green.
Antique Spring Green – A muted, mossy sprout green.
Antique Violet – A sophisticated, smoky purple.
Antique Magenta – A jewel-toned, aged berry.
Antique Violet Blue – A deep, twilight indigo.
⚠️ Artist Note: Due to the high pigment-to-binder ratio of this traditional formula, minor "beauty cracks" may appear in the dried pans. This is a hallmark of professional hand-poured paint and does not affect performance. Just add a drop of water to activate!
UPDATE: 9 colors set will not be sold anymore. New 4 colors set is available including different green color called "Elm Green".
